Equipment

  • 1 | Mixing bowl | For combining the ingredients1 | Fork | For mixing the pumpkin and egg1 | Rolling pin | For flattening the dough1 | Baking sheet | For baking the treats1 | Parchment paper | Helps keep the treats from sticking1 | Small cookie cutter | I use a small cutter to make bite sized treats

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Add the pumpkin puree and egg to a mixing bowl. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  3. Finely chop the cooked chicken and add it to the bowl. Mix until the chicken is evenly distributed.
  4. Add the oat flour gradually and stir until a soft dough forms.
  5. If the dough feels too dry or crumbly, add the water a little at a time until it holds together.
  6. Place the dough between two pieces of parchment paper and roll it to approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Use a small cookie cutter to cut the dough into bite sized treats. Gather the leftover dough, roll it again, and continue cutting.
  8. Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet with a little space between each piece.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the treats are firm and lightly golden around the edges.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow the treats to cool completely before serving.
Recipe Notes
  1. Pumpkin Tip: Use plain 100% pumpkin puree. Avoid pumpkin pie filling because it can contain sugar, spices, and other ingredients that are not appropriate for cats.
  2. Chicken Tip: Use plain cooked chicken without salt, onion, garlic, sauces, or seasoning.
  3. Storage: Keep cooled treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can freeze extra treats for longer storage.
  4. Serving: These treats should be offered in small portions as an occasional addition to your cat's regular complete and balanced food.
  5. Common Mistake to Avoid: Avoid adding milk, sugar, salt, garlic, onion, spices, or artificial sweeteners.
  6. Texture Tip: For a softer treat, avoid overbaking. If your cat prefers a firmer texture, allow the treats to bake until they are completely set before cooling.
