Peanut Butter Sandwiched Dog Treats

These peanut butter sandwiched dog treats are made with two small homemade biscuits held together with a thin layer of peanut butter. I make the biscuits with oat flour, pumpkin, and egg, then sandwich them with dog safe peanut butter for a fun treat that takes a little longer to eat.

Cook Time 18 minutes
Total Time 33 minutes
Servings: 20 sandwich treats
Course: Dog Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 | cups | oat flour | Creates the biscuit dough and gives the treats structure
  • 1/2 | cup | plain pumpkin puree | I use this to add moisture and help create a workable dough
  • 1 | | egg | Helps bind the ingredients together
  • 1/4 | cup | natural peanut butter | I use this as the filling between the baked biscuits
  • 2 | tablespoons | water | Add gradually if needed to bring the dough together

Equipment

  • 1 | Mixing bowl | For combining the ingredients1 | Baking sheet | For baking the biscuits1 | Parchment paper | Helps prevent the biscuits from sticking1 | Small cookie cutter | For making matching bite sized biscuits1 | Rolling pin | For flattening the dough

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Add the oat flour, pumpkin puree, and egg to a mixing bowl.
  3. Stir the ingredients together until a soft dough forms.
  4. Add the water gradually if the dough feels too dry.
  5. Place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper and roll it to approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cut the dough into small, matching shapes using a cookie cutter.
  7. Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet with a little space between them.
  8. Bake for approximately 16 to 18 minutes, or until the biscuits are firm and lightly golden.
  9. Remove the biscuits from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. Once cooled, spread a small amount of natural peanut butter onto the flat side of one biscuit.
  11. Place a second biscuit on top and gently press them together to create a sandwich.
  12. Repeat with the remaining biscuits and peanut butter.
Recipe Notes
  1. Peanut Butter Safety: Use natural peanut butter that contains no xylitol or other artificial sweeteners. Check the ingredient label carefully before using it.
  2. Filling Tip: Use a thin layer of peanut butter between the biscuits. Too much filling can make the sandwiches messy and harder for dogs to eat.
  3. Texture Tip: Let the biscuits cool completely before adding the peanut butter so the filling does not become overly soft.
  4. Storage: Store assembled treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can freeze the baked biscuits separately and add the peanut butter after thawing.
  5. Common Mistake to Avoid: Do not use peanut butter containing xylitol, chocolate, added spices, or other ingredients that are unsafe for dogs.
  6. Serving: Break the sandwich into smaller pieces for smaller dogs and serve as an occasional treat or reward. Treats should complement, rather than replace, your dog's complete and balanced diet.
