Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a small cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Mash the banana thoroughly in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the beaten egg and pumpkin puree. Stir until the mixture is smooth.
- Gradually add the whole wheat flour and mix until combined.
- Add the water a little at a time until you have a thick, spoonable batter.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until the center is firm and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the frosting, mix the plain Greek yogurt and xylitol free peanut butter together until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the frosting over the completely cooled cake.
- Cut the cake into small portions appropriate for your dog before serving.
RECIPE NOTES
- Always use xylitol free peanut butter. Check the ingredient label carefully before using it.
- Use plain pumpkin puree rather than pumpkin pie filling.
- Do not add chocolate, cocoa, raisins, grapes, macadamia nuts, excessive sugar, or artificial sweeteners to the cake or decorations.
- Let the cake cool completely before adding the frosting.
- This cake is a special occasion treat and should be served in moderation. It is not intended to replace a complete and balanced dog food.
- Because the frosting contains yogurt, keep the decorated cake refrigerated and use within a few days. Individual portions can also be frozen.
