Strawberry Banana Cookies for Dogs

These strawberry banana cookies for dogs are easy to make with ripe banana, fresh strawberries, and oat flour. I mash the banana, fold in finely chopped strawberries and oats, then bake the mixture into small homemade cookies. They have a soft, slightly chewy texture and make a fruity occasional treat for dogs.

Servings: 20 small cookies
Course: Dog Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 | medium | ripe banana | I use this for natural sweetness and moisture
  • 1/2 | cup | fresh strawberries finely chopped | Adds fruity flavor and natural color to the cookies
  • 1 | cup | oat flour | Creates the dough and helps the cookies hold their shape
  • 1 | | egg | Helps bind the ingredients together
  • 1 to 2 | tablespoons | water | Add gradually if needed to bring the dough together

Equipment

  • 1 | Mixing bowl | For combining the ingredients1 | Baking sheet | For baking the cookies1 | Parchment paper | Helps prevent the cookies from sticking1 | Fork | For mashing the banana1 | Measuring cups and spoons | For measuring the ingredients

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Wash the strawberries thoroughly, remove the green tops, and chop them into very small pieces.
  3. Peel the banana and mash it in a mixing bowl with a fork until mostly smooth.
  4. Add the egg and stir until combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped strawberries.
  6. Gradually add the oat flour and mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
  7. Add a little water only if the mixture feels too dry. If the strawberries release excess juice, add a small amount of oat flour as needed.
  8. Scoop small portions onto the prepared baking sheet and flatten them gently with the back of a spoon.
  9. Bake for approximately 18 to 20 minutes, or until the cookies are set and lightly golden around the edges.
  10. Remove the cookies from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack.
  11. Allow the cookies to cool completely before serving.
Recipe Notes
  1. Strawberry Tip: Use fresh, ripe strawberries. Wash them thoroughly and remove all green tops before chopping.
  2. Banana Tip: A ripe banana is easier to mash and provides natural sweetness without needing added sugar.
  3. Texture Tip: These cookies are naturally softer and chewier because of the fresh fruit. For a firmer texture, make the cookies smaller and flatter, then bake until fully set without allowing them to burn.
  4. Storage: Because these cookies contain fresh fruit and moisture, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freeze extra cookies in small portions for longer storage.
  5. Common Mistake to Avoid: Do not leave the strawberry pieces too large, as they can make the cookies difficult to shape and cause uneven baking. Avoid adding sugar, chocolate, or artificial sweeteners.
  6. Serving: Offer small pieces as occasional rewards or training treats. Introduce strawberries gradually if your dog has not eaten them before, and keep treats as a complement to your dog's complete and balanced diet.
