Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mash the cooked sweet potato until smooth.
- Gently mash the blueberries, leaving a few small pieces for texture.
- Add the sweet potato, blueberries, oat flour, and egg to a mixing bowl.
- Stir until the ingredients form a soft, workable dough.
- Press or roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into small, dog friendly strips or shapes.
- Arrange the chews on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for approximately 30 to 35 minutes, or until the treats are firm and lightly dried.
- Remove from the oven and allow the chews to cool completely before serving.
Recipe Notes
- Use plain cooked sweet potato without butter, salt, sugar, or seasoning. Wash the blueberries thoroughly before using them.
- For a firmer, longer lasting chew, bake the treats a little longer at a low temperature to remove additional moisture. Homemade treats contain no commercial preservatives, so store them properly.
- Keep refrigerated and use within a few days, or freeze for longer storage.
- These chews are treats rather than a replacement for your dog's regular complete and balanced food.
