Method
- Preheat the oven.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper if desired.
- Prepare the carrots.
- Wash and finely grate the carrots. For very firm carrots, you can lightly steam them first and allow them to cool before mixing.
- Make the mixture.
- Add the ground turkey, grated carrots, egg, and rolled oats to a large mixing bowl. Mix gently until all the ingredients are evenly combined.
- Add water if needed.
- If the mixture seems too dry or difficult to shape, gradually add a small amount of water until it holds together without becoming overly wet.
- Shape the meatballs.
- Use a small cookie scoop or your hands to form approximately 24 small meatballs. Keep them small enough to be an appropriate bite size for your dog.
- Arrange on the baking sheet.
- Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
- Bake.
- Bake for approximately 18 to 20 minutes, or until the meatballs are completely cooked through. The center should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Cool completely.
- Remove the meatballs from the oven and allow them to cool completely before giving them to your dog.
- Serve and store.
- Serve as an occasional treat or meal topper according to your dog's size and dietary needs. Store leftovers in the refrigerator or freeze individual portions for longer storage.
RECIPE NOTES
- Use plain ingredients only. Do not add salt, onion, garlic, seasoning blends, sauces, or other ingredients that may be unsafe for dogs.
- These mini meatballs can be served as an occasional treat or used as a topper alongside your dog's regular complete and balanced food. They should not automatically replace a nutritionally complete diet.
- For smaller dogs, make the meatballs especially tiny and adjust the serving amount based on your dog's size and daily calorie needs. Always allow the meatballs to cool completely before serving.
