No Bake Dog Treats

These no bake dog treats are quick to prepare with natural peanut butter, plain pumpkin puree, and oat flour. I mix the ingredients into a soft dough, roll it into small bite sized balls, and chill them until firm. They are a convenient homemade snack when you want to make dog treats without turning on the oven.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 | cup | plain pumpkin puree | I use this to add moisture and natural flavor

  • 1 | cup | oat flour | Creates the dough and helps the treats hold their shape
  • 1 to 2 | tablespoons | water | Add gradually if the mixture feels too dry

Equipment

  • 1 | Mixing bowl | For combining the ingredients1 | Fork or mixing spoon | For mashing and mixing the ingredients1 | Measuring cups and spoons | For measuring the ingredients1 | Baking sheet or plate | For arranging the treats before chilling1 | Parchment paper | Helps prevent the treats from sticking

Method

  1. Add the pumpkin puree and natural peanut butter to a mixing bowl.
Stir until the ingredients are evenly combined.
Gradually add the oat flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
If the mixture feels too dry or crumbly, add water a little at a time until it holds together.
Scoop out small portions of the mixture and roll them into bite sized balls.
Place the treats on a parchment lined baking sheet or plate.
Refrigerate for approximately 30 minutes, or until the treats become firm.
Check that the treats hold their shape before serving.
Serve an appropriately sized portion based on your dog's size.

    Recipe Notes

Peanut Butter Safety: Use natural peanut butter that contains no xylitol or other artificial sweeteners. Check the ingredient label carefully before using it.
Pumpkin Tip: Use plain pumpkin puree without added sugar, spices, or pie filling ingredients.
Texture Tip: If the dough is sticky, add a little more oat flour. If it is crumbly, add a small amount of water and mix again.
Storage: Because these treats contain moisture and are not baked, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freeze extra treats in small portions for longer storage.
Common Mistake to Avoid: Do not leave the treats at room temperature for extended periods or assume refrigeration makes them shelf stable. These are perishable homemade treats.
Serving: Offer one or two small pieces as occasional rewards, adjusting the amount for your dog's size and daily calorie needs. Treats should complement, rather than replace, your dog's complete and balanced diet.
